Air/Hau
Blended Group
The Air/Hau Group is for all children and is the group we typically run in schools. The New Zealand Falcon/Kārearea has the ability to walk strongly on the earth, yet the grace to take flight through the skies. The aim of Air/Hau is to create an environment where children with all different preferences and energy needs learn to connect with others and discover the beauty of balance within themselves and each other.
The group activities involve a combination of drumming, drama, art, craft, yoga, and dance. The activities are structured to include a range of opportunities for movement, self-expression, connection, relaxation, and sharing.
Fire/Ahi
High Energy
The Fire/Ahi Group is for children who have a lot of energy and want an outlet to express themselves. They may be high-spirited, love to talk, and are lively movers. This group is tailored to meet the needs of children who thrive in a structured environment where opportunities to express their high energy is encouraged.
The group activities involve a combination of drumming, drama, art, craft, yoga, and dance. However, the activities are structured to include more opportunities for movement, self-expression, and connection in movement-based ways, as well as talking.
Earth/Whenua
Calm & Grounded
The Earth/Whenua Group is for children who prefer to interact with others in a calm, quiet, and relaxing environment. All children can be loud at times. However, this group is tailored to meet the needs of children who prefer a quiet and relaxed environment to help them centre their energy and connect with others.
The group activities involve a combination of drumming, drama, art, craft, yoga, and dance. However, the activities are structured to include more opportunities for relaxation, sharing, and calmer forms of movement-based activities.
Water/kātao
Transition
The transition from Primary School to Secondary School is a big change. Children’s identities start to shift from ‘child’ to ‘teenager’ and with that shift comes a lot of transformation - physically, psychologically, emotionally, and socially.
Our Water/Kātao group focuses on using children’s positive resources to guide them through these changes with confidence. We address specific topics such as practical communication skills, connection and conflict, responsibility, boundaries, and self-care. We incorporate elements of drumming, drama, dance, yoga, art, and craft as mediums to discuss these important changes and help them connect with their peers who are also going through the same transition.
