Benefits of Therapy NZ

Psychology, psychotherapy, and counselling are different forms of evidence-based therapy

All three modalities are effective in helping people deal with a variety of challenges. At Positive Psychology and Psychotherapy we tailor our therapeutic approach to the individual. For instance, if you are wanting advice on a specific issue (e.g., a major life decision), then counselling may be appropriate. If you want to understand the underlying factors that contribute to reoccurring relationship problems, then psychotherapy may be appropriate. If your child is displaying problem behaviours at home and/or school, then a thorough psychological assessment may be required. Ultimately, while different therapeutic styles will be more useful in some contexts than others, establishing a safe and trusting relationship between yourself and a skilled therapist is one of the most important factors to consider when entering therapy.

Benefits of Therapy NZ

People choose to begin therapy for a variety of different reasons

You may want to create more meaningful relationships, find more purpose in your life or transform feelings of hurt, loneliness, and anger into healing, belonging, and intimacy. You may also be motivated to change your life because you feel stuck in repetitive patterns. Perhaps the daily challenges of life have become too much and you are experiencing high levels of stress or anxiety, which make it hard to relax and enjoy life. Maybe your emotions are all over the place, swinging from one extreme to the other and this is affecting the quality of your relationships. In contrast, your emotional world might feel like it is ‘stuck on one setting’ and depression, grief or anger dominate your experiences. If you have experienced trauma, you may be feeling intense shame and guilt or feel emotionally numb. Perhaps you are watching your children struggle with bullying, identity confusion, social skills or issues with eating, toileting or separation anxiety. Whatever your reasons are, seeing a skilled therapist can help you and your loved ones with a variety of different challenges.
